The Width and Height fields change correspondingly and we can now see that the document size will be 8 1/2" by 11." To specify that we want our document to be measured in inches, in the Units section, The Units drop-down in the New Document dialog box will allow us to choose from a number of different units of measurements - we'll choose Inches for today, as that's a measurement we're more familiar with. Let's get started by specifying the unit of measurement we'd like to work with in our document. While many of the default document settings will work for our needs, we'll need to change some in order to create our newsletter. The content we'll be incorporating into the newsletter is already created for us, and we'll import it directly into the newsletter instead of typing it directly into InDesign. We will begin with one document page and add others as we incorporate content. However, to add interest to the layout, in certain areas we will be manually overriding this three-column setting. We'll create the newsletter with a groundwork layout of three columns to hold our text. Our "Classroom Technology Today" newsletter project will eventually span two pages, printed on one sheet of paper. As we create our newsletter, we'll learn about the most frequently used settings in the New Document dialog box. To begin creating a new document, on the Menu bar,įrom here, we can specify a number of different settings for our new document. Instead, when we start a document, we are first required to specify some information about our publication such as the document's paper size, orientation, margins, and number of columns. When we begin creating a new document, InDesign does not automatically open a blank page. Let's begin to create our own publication and explore some new document specifications.
